James Loney hit his second career grand slam and the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers ended their 10-game road trip with a wild 10-8 win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.
Rod Barajas and Matt Kemp added home runs for the Dodgers, who led 9-3 midway through the seventh inning. Kemp’s 20 home runs lead the National League.
Rubby De La Rosa (3-0) left with a right forearm cramp after allowing three runs on six hits while striking out six over five innings. The Dodgers went 5-5 on the road trip and scored 33 runs during the four-game series.
Ubaldo Jimenez (1-7) gave up seven runs – two earned – on 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings. He gave up three home runs in a game for the first time in his career.
Scott Elbert retired Seth Smith with a runner on in the bottom of the ninth for his first save. Smith gave the Rockies a brief lead with his three-run home run in the first inning. Five of Smith’s six home runs have come at Coors Field.
Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki homered in the seventh to bring the Rockies to within two runs. Gonzalez went 12-for-18 in the series. Todd Helton added a solo home run in the ninth.
