Tim Stauffer tallied a career-high eight strikeouts and drove in a run to lead the San Diego Padres to a 2-0 win over the visiting Colorado Rockies on Tuesday.
In his longest outing in his career, Stauffer (2-4) allowed four hits with one walk over eight innings.
Heath Bell worked around Todd Helton’s leadoff single in the ninth for his 17th save.
The Padres scratched together two runs in the fifth inning off Ubaldo Jimenez (1-6), who gave up two runs on six hits with no walks and eight strikeouts over seven innings.
Alberto Gonzalez and Stauffer drove in runs for the Padres, who improved to 13-22 at home. Stauffer went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles.
San Diego’s Chase Headley went 0-for-4 to end his career-best 16-game hitting streak.
