Brad Hawpe sunk his former team with a two-run homer in the ninth inning to lift the San Diego Padres to a 9-7 victory over the host Colorado Rockies on Saturday.

Hawpe’s homer off Huston Street (0-1) landed in the second deck in right field and culminated San Diego’s rally from a six-run deficit.

Mike Adams (2-0) pitched a hitless eighth for the victory and Heath Bell tossed a perfect ninth for his ninth save and 100th of his career with San Diego.

Colorado starter Jhoulys Chacin gave up just one run through six innings before wilting in the seventh. The Padres scored four times on just two hits and pulled within 7-6 in the eighth on Ryan Ludwick’s sacrifice fly before Eric Patterson’s two-out single drove in Cameron Maybin with the tying run.

Chacin gave up five runs – three earned – and five hits in six-plus innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Todd Helton and Carlos Gonzalez homered for the Rockies and Troy Tulowitzki added a two-run double as the Rockies built their 7-1 lead.

San Diego starter Aaron Harang was torched for seven runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.
