Jorge De La Rosa pitched 5 1/3 strong innings and helped himself with an RBI single as the Colorado Rockies evened their record with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Dexter Fowler and Chris Iannetta each added RBI doubles for the Rockies, who suffered a 7-6 loss in 11 innings in the season opener on Friday.
De La Rosa (1-0) re-signed with Colorado for two years and $21.25 million, and set about earning that money immediately in his first start of 2011. The lefthander struck out five, walked one and allowed three hits.
The Rockies got to Diamondbacks starter Dan Hudson (0-1) in the third when Fowler plated Iannetta with a double. They added two more in the fourth on Iannetta’s double and De La Rosa’s single to shallow left.
Matt Belisle and Rafael Betancourt combined to allow one hit in 2 1/3 innings, and Huston Street allowed a run in the ninth but struck out Gerardo Parra with the tying run on second to earn the save.
Ryan Roberts drove in the lone run for Arizona.
