Starting pitcher John Lannan homered and Jerry Hairston put the game away with his third career grand slam to lead the visiting Washington Nationals to a 7-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
Lannan (7-6) gave up two runs – one earned – on three hits and struck out six over 6 1/3 innings. He went 2-for-3 at the plate with a two-run shot to become the third Nationals pitcher to homer in the last seven seasons.
Hairston’s shot to left field off Matt Guerrier in the ninth made it 7-2.
The Dodgers have scored a major league-low 39 runs in July and managed only three hits against the Nationals.
Los Angeles starter Hiroki Kuroda (6-12) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out seven over 6 1/3 innings.
