Rookie Cole Garner plated a run with his first career hit, and Jason Hammel tossed 6 1/3 solid innings as the Colorado Rockies snapped a five-game losing streak Friday with a 3-2 road victory over the Washington Nationals.
Washington starter John Lannan (5-6) retired the first 10 batters before Colorado began a three-run rally in the fourth with three straight singles, including one by Ty Wigginton that tied the game 1-1.
Wigginton's hit also ended the night for Lannan, who was struck in the face and left with a nasal contusion. Ryan Mattheus came on and forced in a run with a balk before Garner delivered his single in his third career at-bat.
Hammel (5-8) yielded two runs and five hits en route to just his second win in 13 starts. Huston Street worked a scoreless ninth for his 25th save in 27 opportunities.
Wilson Ramos homered for Washington, which fell to 5-7 under manager Davey Johnson.
