Michael Morse belted a grand slam in the 11th inning as the Washington Nationals rebounded after squandering a late four-run lead to record a 9-4 road triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
After Rick Ankiel drew a bases-loaded walk to give Washington a 5-4 advantage in the 11th inning, Morse cleared the bases with a blast to center for his eighth homer of the season.
Wilson Ramos belted a three-run homer and Roger Bernadina had three hits and scored twice for the Nationals, who bounced back from being shut out in consecutive contests to salvage a split of the four-game series.
Sean Burnett (1-2) picked up the win after tossing 1 2/3 innings of relief, while Joe Paterson (0-1) permitted five runs on three hits in one inning to take the loss.
Kelly Johnson ripped a solo homer in the eighth and Juan Miranda ignited a three-run uprising in the ninth with a bases-loaded walk. Melvin Mora plated Chris Young with a sacrifice fly and Miguel Montero scored on Xavier Nady's fielder's choice to tie the game at 4-4.
Washington starter Jason Marquis was ejected in the sixth inning after hitting Justin Upton with a pitch. Upton was plunked for the fourth time in as many games in the series.
Esmerling Vasquez and Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson were also ejected after the former hit Danny Espinosa with a pitch in the eighth.
