Andrew McCutchen belted a leadoff home run in the bottom of the 12th inning, lifting the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 3-2 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.
McCutchen's third hit of the game on a 3-2 pitch from reliever Zach Kroenke (0-1) sent the Diamondbacks to their third consecutive defeat.
Daniel McCutchen (2-0) earned the victory with two innings of relief, wiggling out of a first-and-third, no-out jam in the 11th inning.
Jose Tabata had four hits and McCutchen extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Stephen Drew had a pair of RBI singles for Arizona, including one to put the Diamondbacks ahead in the 10th, but closer J.J. Putz couldn't nail it down, allowing a double to McCutchen and a tying single to Neil Walker for his second blown save in his last four appearances.
Pirates starter Paul Maholm blanked Arizona on one hit in six innings, striking out four and walking three.
Ex-Pirate Zach Duke worked in and out of trouble but allowed just the one run on nine hits in seven innings. He fanned one and did not walk a batter.
