Ryan Braun and Nyjer Morgan homered while Corey Hart extended his hitting streak to 17 games with an RBI single as the Milwaukee Brewers reduced their magic number for clinching the National League Central to 11 with a 4-1 road triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday afternoon.
Yuniesky Betancourt had three hits and an RBI for Milwaukee, which moved 10 1/2 games ahead of St. Louis in the Central.
Randy Wolf (12-9) pitched eight superb innings and added a pair of singles as he faced the Cardinals for the fourth time in seven starts. The veteran lefthander allowed one run and four hits.
John Axford worked a perfect ninth for his 41st save in 43 chances.
Hart gave the Brewers a 1-0 lead in the second inning and Braun doubled it by leading off the third against Jake Westbrook (11-8) with his 27th blast of the season. Westbrook yielded three runs and struck out a career high-tying nine over six innings.
Betancourt plated a run in the sixth with a single and Morgan greeted Kyle McClellan in the seventh with his fourth homer.
