Casey McGehee tied a franchise record with three home runs as Milwaukee beat St. Louis 10-5 Wednesday at Miller Park, completing an 8-1 homestand and increasing its lead in the N.L. Central to 3 ½ games.
McGehee had not homered since July 6, but took Cardinals starter Edwin Jackson (1-1) deep three times, connecting for his sixth, seventh and eighth homers of the year. McGee had hit only three home runs in his previous 355 at-bats. McGee went 7-for-14 against the Cardinals in the three-game series.
Jackson was making his second start for the Cardinals since being acquired from the White Sox in trade deadline deal. He allowed 14 hits, four of them home runs, and 10 runs in his seven-inning stint.
Five Brewers had more than one hit, including Corey Hart, who hit his 15th home run and later added an RBI single. The win improved Milwaukee's home record to 41-15, the best winning percentage in the majors.
Randy Wolf (8-8) earned his second straight win, despite allowing five runs in six innings, three of them on a homer by Rafael Furcal, his second.
