Jose Altuve led off the game with an inside-the-park home run and J.D. Martinez added a two-run blast and four RBIs for the Houston Astros, who matched their longest winning streak of the season by beating the visiting San Francisco Giants for their fourth straight victory.
Carlos Lee and Jimmy Paredes chipped in two hits apiece for the Astros, who will be going for their first series sweep since May30-June 1 on Sunday.
The Giants have dropped three in a row and 16 of their last 22 to fall three games behind the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West.
Altuve led off the bottom of the first and belted a 1-0 pitch off the wall in left-center field. The ball caromed past San Francisco center fielder Cody Ross, allowing Altuve to scamper all the way around for his first career major league blast.
Houston piled on Madison Bumgarner (7-12) in the third, pushing across four more runs. Martinez, who doubled home a pair in the third, added his fifth career homer in the seventh to put it away.
Jordan Lyles (2-7) allowed two unearned runs in five innings to earn his second career win. Mark Melancon got credit for his 13th save.
