Albert Pujols and David Freese homered to lead the host St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.
The Astros, who own the worst record in the majors at 33-70, have lost five straight and fell to 3-61 when trailing after eight innings.
Pujols drove the first pitch he saw from Brett Myers (3-11) over the center-field wall for a two-run homer in the first.
Carlos Lee's RBI single in the third got the Astros within one before Freese restored the margin with a two-out solo homer in the sixth.
Jake Westbrook (9-4) allowed one run and seven hits in six innings. Four St. Louis relievers combined to hold the Astros to one hit over the final three innings as Fernando Salas worked the ninth for his 19th save.
Myers gave up 11 hits over eight innings. Michael Bourn had two of Houston's eight hits, including a double, and stole his major league-leading 38th base.
