Hunter Pence hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Houston to a 4-3 win over Cincinnati on Wednesday afternoon.
J.R. Towles opened the decisive frame with a leadoff walk against Mike Leake (3-2), and Pence followed by driving a 3-2 pitch to deep right field that plated the winning run.
Michael Bourn's two-run single in the second inning gave the Astros a two-run lead, which held until Chris Heisey and Drew Stubbs hit back-to-back solo homers off Wandy Rodriguez with one out in the seventh to tie it at 3-3.
Mark Melancon (3-1) got the win for the Astros after pitching a scoreless ninth. Rodriguez allowed 10 hits over seven innings of work, while starter Edinson Volquez lasted just four innings for Cincinnati, giving up three hits and walking five.
