Travis Wood pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings and hit a three-run homer to lead the visiting Cincinnati Reds to a 6-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Monday night.
Wood (2-3) broke open a scoreless game with nobody out in the third when he ripped a 0-1 pitch to left field against Aneury Rodriguez (0-1). Ramon Hernandez added a two-run shot in the fourth, and Drew Stubbs capped the Cincinnati scoring with an RBI single in the sixth.
Houston, meanwhile, could muster nothing against Wood, who allowed six hits and struck out six. Hunter Pence hit a solo home run against Logan Ondrusek in the eighth to break up the shutout.
Rodriguez gave up five runs on eight hits and a walk in five innings.
Ryan Hanigan went 3-for-4 with a run scored for Cincinnati.
