Chris Heisey drove in three runs and Brandon Phillips scored three as the Cincinnati Reds stayed undefeated with an 8-2 thrashing of the visiting Houston Astros on Tuesday.
Drew Stubbs and Joey Votto each had two hits and combined to score three runs for the Reds, who got a strong start out of righthander Mike Leake.
J.A. Happ (0-1) started for the Astros and had no answers for the Cincinnati lineup. He allowed three runs in the first and two in the second. The lefthander lasted only four innings and was charged with seven runs on seven hits. Command was a big problem for Happ as he walked five.
The Reds scored two runs on bases-loaded walks and another on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded. They got to use their bats in the fourth with Votto’s RBI double and Heisey’s run-scoring single.
Leake (1-0) went six innings and allowed two runs, three hits and two walks, and struck out four.
Angel Sanchez drove in both runs for Houston (0-4).
