Aramis Ramirez snapped a tie with a two-run single in the fifth inning and the Chicago Cubs held on for a 4-3 triumph over the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Monday afternoon.
Alfonso Soriano also drove in a run and Matt Garza pitched 7 2/3 solid innings for Chicago, which won for just the fourth time in 11 games.
After Soriano tied the game at 1-1 with an RBI single in the fourth, Ramirez delivered a two-out base hit to put the Cubs ahead. Ramirez scored later in the frame on a wild pitch by Dontrelle Willis (0-5), who remained winless in 11 starts this year.
Garza (8-10) yielded three runs - one earned - and six hits en route to his third win in four starts. The righthander, who struck out eight, has allowed three earned runs or less in 10 of his last 11 outings.
Carlos Marmol worked a perfect ninth for his 32nd save in 41 opportunities.
Yonder Alonso had two hits and an RBI for Cincinnati, which has lost six of eight.
