Starlin Castro went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to key a pair of big innings as the Chicago Cubs routed the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 11-4 on Wednesday night.
After falling behind in the top of the third on Ryan Theriot's RBI single and sitting through a 53-minute rain delay, the Cubs unloaded on Jake Westbrook (2-3) with six runs in the third to take command. Carlos Pena's two-run double and Castro's two-run single highlighted the onslaught.
Chicago tacked on four more runs in the fifth, with Castro and Koyie Hill each slugging an RBI triple off reliever Ryan Franklin. St. Louis scored three runs in the seventh, including two on an Albert Pujols base hit, but did not get any closer.
Matt Garza (2-4) worked around the delay to earn the win. He allowed one run, three hits, three walks and struck out five in five innings.
