Cubs ace Ryan Dempster isn’t pitching like one, and Arizona capitalized Wednesday for a 6-4 win at Wrigley Field.
It was the Diamondbacks’ first win over Chicago in their last eight tries.
Center fielder Chris Young tripled and doubled and drove in two runs as Arizona dinged Dempster for 10 hits and five runs, four earned, in seven innings. Hot leadoff hitter Willie Bloomquist got two more hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Dempster fell to 0-2 with a 6.59 ERA.
Miguel Montero added a solo homer in the eighth for Arizona.
Aramis Ramirez belted a two-run shot for the Cubs, and Alfonso Soriano had a solo homer.
Arizona's Armando Galarraga (1-0) allowed four runs over seven innings for the win, and J.J. Putz pitched a perfect ninth for his second save.
Arizona improved to 2-3, while the Cubs saw their three-game win streak snapped. Chicago finished its opening homestand 3-3.
