Ryan Vogelsong tossed seven strong innings and Eli Whiteside drove in three runs to help the San Francisco Giants snap a five-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
Vogelsong (5-1), who surrendered one unearned run on three hits and one walk, has not allowed more than two runs in nine consecutive starts.
Vogelsong’s 1.73 ERA would lead the majors, but he’s 1 1/3 innings short of qualifying after Wednesday’s outing.
After winning five straight starts, Nick Blackburn (6-5) gave up three runs on four hits over six innings for Minnesota, which failed to extend its season-high eight-game winning streak.
The Giants had a player drive in three or more runs for the first time in 18 games when Whiteside tripled in two runs in the first inning and singled home a run in the sixth.
