Daniel Hudson pitched seven strong innings to win his sixth straight decision and Chris Young knocked in two runs as the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks finished a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals, 5-3 Thursday night.
Miguel Montero and Juan Miranda also homered for Arizona, which has won five of seven to move one-half game up on San Francisco for first place in the National League West.
Hudson (9-5) allowed three runs and six hits, throwing 107 pitches. J.J. Putz pitched a perfect ninth inning to gain his 20th save for Arizona.
Felipe Paulino (0-5) allowed all five runs in the first four innings, before retiring 13 straight batters for the Royals, who have lost five straight and seven of eight games.
Young gave the Diamondbacks the lead for good with a two-run single in the first inning and Montero followed with a homer. After Kansas City closed within 3-2, Stephen Drew belted an RBI double in the third and Miranda added a solo home run in the fourth to give Arizona a 5-2 lead.
