Ryan Howard hit a two-run double in the top of the 11th inning and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Saturday for their fourth straight victory.
With Placido Polanco at third base, the Padres intentionally walked Jimmy Rollins to face Howard, who doubled to deep left field off Cory Luebke.
Chad Qualls (0-2) got the loss after giving up Polanco’s single to open the inning. San Diego has lost 10 straight to the Phillies at Petco Park.
Kyle Kendrick (1-1) worked a perfect 10th and Ryan Madson earned his second save in as many days. The Phillies bullpen allowed only one baserunner in the last four innings.
San Diego broke its 21-inning scoreless streak in the first on Jason Bartlett’s RBI triple off Phillies starter Joe Blanton.
Ben Francisco’s triple scored Rollins in the fourth, and Nick Hundley answered in the fifth with an RBI double to give the Padres their first lead of the series.
