Scott Hairston knocked in the winning run in the 10th inning and Jason Isringhausen tallied his 300th career save as the New York Mets snapped their five-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the host San Diego Padres on Monday.
Isringhausen, who tossed a scoreless 10th inning for his seventh save, joined John Franco and Billy Wagner as the only players to record their 300th save with the Mets. He is tied for 22nd with Bruce Sutter on the career saves list.
After Josh Spence (0-2) walked the first two batters in the top of the 10th, Hairston’s infield grounder off Chad Qualls scored Jason Pridie with the go-ahead run.
Manny Acosta (1-0) earned the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Lucas Duda blasted his second home run in as many games against Padres starter Aaron Harang, who gave up four runs over five innings.
Josh Thole, who tied a career high with three RBIs, went 3-for-3 with his third home run and improved to 6-for-6 lifetime against Harang.
San Diego capped its rally from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game when Jesus Guzman singled off Bobby Parnell in the eighth inning. The Padres’ 23-37 home mark is the second worst in the majors.
