Ryan Howard hit two home runs - including a grand slam - and drove in six runs as the host Philadelphia Phillies crushed the New York Mets 10-3 on Friday night.
Howard opened the scoring with a two-run homer off Mike Pelfrey in the fourth. His grand slam off Dillon Gee in the sixth gave him a major league-leading 27 RBIs.
The Phillies (17-8) beat the Mets for the third time in four tries and became the first team to reach 17 wins.
The Mets (11-15) hoped to take advantage of the one unproven starter they'll see in this three-game set, but Vance Worley (1-0) gave up only two hits and struck out five in five scoreless innings in his season debut.
Pelfrey (1-3) allowed four earned runs on eight hits and struck out three in 4 1/3 innings.
Ike Davis and Jason Pridie homered in the ninth for the Mets, who had two hits in the first eight innings and have lost two in a row following a six-game winning streak.
