David Wright went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Chris Young worked 5 1/3 solid innings as the visiting New York Mets won their third straight game and handed the Philadelphia Phillies their first defeat , 7-1 on Tuesday night.
Young (1-0), making his first start with New York, helped himself by going 3-for-3, including two hits in a six-run third inning that broke the game open against Phillies starter Cole Hamels (0-1).
Wright opened the scoring with a two-run single in the third and Ike Davis, Brad Emaus and Young followed with RBI singles as the Mets beat Hamels for the fifth straight time.
Young, who made only four starts with San Diego a year ago due to shoulder troubles, permitted one run on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked four.
Hamels lasted just 2 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits in falling to 2-9 lifetime against New York. Placido Polanco doubled in the Phillies’ only run.
