Javier Vazquez threw seven scoreless innings and recorded his 2,500th career strikeout, and Logan Morrison's two-run single was the biggest blow in a five-run seventh inning as the Florida Marlins defeated the host New York Mets 6-0 on Tuesday.
The Mets, who had their four-game winning streak snapped, swept a doubleheader Monday to open the five-game series. They allowed two runs in those games, and their starting pitchers had allowed only one run in 27 innings before Florida's eruption in the seventh Tuesday.
Four of those runs were charged to Mike Pelfrey (7-11), who dropped to 1-8 in 17 career starts against the Marlins.
Vazquez (8-11) allowed three hits - all singles - and struck out six to win for the first time since July 27. He has turned in seven consecutive quality starts, though, and has a 2.30 ERA during that span.
Mike Stanton went 3-for-4, including his 31st homer of the season in the ninth.
