Dustin Ackley had three hits and scored on Steve Cishek’s wild pitch during an intentional walk in the top of the 10th inning as the Seattle Mariners defeated the Florida Marlins 2-1 on Sunday.
Ackley led off the 10th with a double against Randy Choate (0-1) and moved to third on Miguel Olivo’s sacrifice fly before Cishek threw the third pitch of an intentional walk over the head of catcher John Buck to allow Ackley to score.
David Pauley (5-1) pitched a perfect ninth inning and Brandon League recorded his 21st save in the finale of the interleague series played in Seattle because Florida’s home ballpark was unavailable due to an upcoming U2 concert. As a result, the teams used National League rules despite the series taking place in an American League stadium.
Florida tied the game with two outs in the eighth when Omar Infante ended a 12-pitch at-bat against Doug Fister with a game-tying double just inside the left-field line to drive in Jose Lopez.
Seattle scored in the fifth when Fister doubled and later scored on Brendan Ryan’s single.
Fister gave up one run and eight hits in eight innings. Florida’s Anibal Sanchez gave up one run and six hits in six innings.
