Jimmy Rollins homered and drove in a season-high four runs and Wilson Valdez belted a bases-clearing triple as the Philadelphia Phillies cruised to an 8-1 home triumph over the Florida Marlins on Wednesday during the first game of a doubleheader.
Ryan Howard collected his 14th RBI in 11 games with a run-scoring double for Philadelphia, which has plated 35 runs during its five-game winning streak.
Making his major-league debut, Florida starter Elih Villanueva (0-1) yielded solo runs in the first and second innings before being rocked in the third.
Valdez, who had three hits, recorded his first triple of the season to give Philadelphia a 5-1 advantage. Rollins followed three batters later with his sixth homer of the campaign to cap the six-run frame.
The offensive explosion was more than enough for Kyle Kendrick (4-4), who tossed seven strong innings to improve to 6-2 in his career against the Marlins.
Logan Morrison belted his ninth homer of the season in the first inning for Florida, which has dropped five in a row and 15 of its last 17.
