Ryan Roberts homered and Kelly Johnson doubled in three runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks bashed their way to a 9-5 victory over the host Florida Marlins on Saturday.
Stephen Drew added a solo homer for the Diamondbacks, who won for just the second time in the last six games.
The Marlins, who snapped an eight-game losing streak with a win in Friday’s series opener, fell to 1-9 in June.
Arizona broke it open in the fourth, getting to Florida starter Javier Vazquez for six runs in the frame. Drew ignited the onslaught with his home run and Johnson provided the big hit when his base-loaded double to deep center made it over Chris Coghlan’s head and brought in three more runs.
Vazquez (3-6), who already owned the worst ERA of any qualifier in the major leagues, watched that mark jump to 7.09 as he was knocked around for seven runs on as many hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Ian Kennedy (7-2) lasted eight innings for the Diamondbacks, striking out nine while yielding five runs and eight hits.
Mike Stanton and Gaby Sanchez hit back-to-back homers for the Marlins in the fifth inning. It was Stanton’s 16th on the season and third in as many days.
