Marlon Byrd hit a two-run home run and Casey Coleman pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings as the Chicago Cubs completed a two-game sweep of the host Florida Marlins with a 5-1 victory Thursday night.
Starlin Castro had a two-run double and Reed Johnson contributed an RBI double to help the Cubs beat the Marlins for the sixth consecutive time.
Coleman (2-3) allowed four hits while striking out seven and walking five to snap a personal three-game losing streak.
Johnson doubled home Carlos Pena in the second and Byrd homered for the second straight night, taking Marlins starter Chris Volstad (2-3) deep in the fourth for a 3-0 lead.
Volstad went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked one.
Florida’s Mike Stanton clubbed a solo homer in the eighth inning off Kerry Wood to cut it to 3-1 before Castro supplied a pair of insurance runs in the ninth.
Hanley Ramirez, Logan Morrison and John Buck had two hits apiece for the Marlins.
