Dan Uggla homered twice to extend his hitting streak to 32 games Friday as the Atlanta Braves routed the visiting Chicago Cubs 10-4 on Bobby Cox Night.
Cubs starter Carlos Zambrano allowed five home runs before he was ejected for apparently attempting to hit Chipper Jones. He cleaned out his locker and left before the game was over, and told the Cubs he was considering retirement.
Uggla hit a solo shot in the second inning to help the Braves take a 2-0 lead.
After the Cubs got on the board in the third, Jones stretched Atlanta's lead to 5-1 with a three-run homer to center field against Zambrano (9-7). Freddie Freeman singled with two outs and Zambrano hit Uggla with a pitch prior to Jones' blast.
The Braves tacked on three more solo homers against Zambrano - Jose Constanza in the fourth, and Freddie Freeman and Uggla in the fifth. Zambrano was tossed in the fifth after throwing consecutive inside pitches to Jones following Uggla's homer.
Mike Minor (2-2) scattered nine hits and struck out six in 5 2/3 innings. Zambrano yielded eight runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Cox' No. 6 was retired in a pregame ceremony. He won 2,504 games as a manager, including 2,149 with the Braves.
