Alex Gonzalez ripped an RBI single to center and Brian McCann added a two-run homer in the 11th inning as the Atlanta Braves posted a 4-1 road triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.
Dan Uggla led off the fifth inning with his 15th homer of the season for Atlanta, which evened the series with its 10th win in 12 contests. The teams will play the rubber match of their three-game series Sunday.
In the 11th inning, Gonzalez lifted a lazy foul ball behind first base, which Ryan Howard failed to catch. Gonzalez made the Phillies pay for their defensive miscue by driving in Wilkin Ramirez for his 27th RBI of the season.
McCann provided insurance by launching his 15th homer of the campaign into the right field seats off rookie Michael Stutes (3-1).
George Sherrill (2-1) was credited with the win after working out of a bases-loaded jam in the 10th inning. Rookie Craig Kimbrel retired the side in order to notch his 28th save of the season.
Cliff Lee belted his first career homer and struck out nine in eight innings for Philadelphia, which fell for just the third time in 15 games at Citizens Bank Park.
In the third inning, Lee deposited Tommy Hanson's 10th offering of the at-bat into the seats in right center. The homer run was the first by a Phillies pitcher since Chan Ho Park went deep in April 2009.
