Rookie Freddie Freeman’s single in the 10th lifted Atlanta to a 3-2 win over Florida Wednesday, extending the Marlins losing streak to seven games.
The Braves led 2-0 with two outs in the ninth, but the Marlins tied the game against reliever Craig Kimbrel when Mike Stanton laced an opposite-field single to right with a two-strike count that drove in a pair.
Atlanta went ahead in the 10th when Chipper Jones walked against Mike Dunn (4-4), advanced on Brian McCann’s single and scored on Freeman’s 22nd RBI of the season. The rally made an unlikely winner of Kimbrel (2-2), who blew his fifth save. Scott Linebrink, the sixth reliever used by Atlanta, struck out Gaby Sanchez to end the game and earn his first save.
The blown save wasted a strong effort by Atlanta starter Derek Lowe, who carried a no-hitter into the seventh and left with a two-run lead. Lowe allowed two hits and struck out five in 6 2/3 innings and hasn’t won a game since May 6.
