Miguel Olivo hit a pair of home runs as Seattle pulled away for a 7-3 victory at Detroit on Sunday afternoon.
After falling into an early 2-0 hole, the Mariners pulled ahead with three runs in the fifth inning against Rick Porcello (6-4). Olivo led off the inning with a solo homer to left field, and Ichiro Suzuki and Justin Smoak followed with two-out RBI singles.
Olivo, who has hit six of his 10 home runs in the last nine games, added a two-run shot to left with one out in the eighth off Joaquin Benoit. Smoak knocked in two more runs with his team-leading 12th homer against Adam Wilk in the top of the ninth.
Seattle starter Felix Hernandez (7-5) worked eight innings for the win, scattering nine hits and five walks while striking out six. Porcello gave up six hits and three walks in seven innings.
Alex Avila had RBI singles in the second and eighth innings for the Tigers.
