Jhonny Peralta homered to key a three-run sixth inning as Detroit pulled into a tie for the American League Central lead with an 8-1 victory over visiting Seattle on Saturday evening.
The Tigers built a three-run cushion in the first two innings behind an RBI single by Victor Martinez and a run-scoring triple by Austin Jackson. After the Mariners got on the board in the top of the sixth, Peralta hit a two-run shot to left against Michael Pineda (6-4). Jackson added an RBI base hit later in the frame against reliever Jamey Wright.
Max Scherzer (8-2) got the win for Detroit, allowing just four hits in seven innings. The lone Seattle run came on a sacrifice fly by Brendan Ryan.
Jackson, Martinez and Brennan Boesch each finished with three of the Tigers' 14 hits. Detroit has totaled 73 hits in its last six games.
