Carlos Peguero's seventh-inning home run lifted Seattle to a 3-2 victory at Detroit on Friday evening.

Peguero, who had tripled and scored on the game-tying RBI single by Chris Gimenez in the fifth inning, took a 1-2 pitch from Brad Penny (5-5) over the right-field wall to give the Mariners a one-run edge. He had been inserted into the lineup Friday in place of struggling right fielder Ichiro Suzuki, who is hitless in his last 13 at-bats.

The day off ended Ichiro's streak of 255 consecutive games played.

Brandon League worked the ninth to pick up his 18th save in relief of Chris Ray (3-1), who worked two perfect innings out of the bullpen for the win.

Justin Smoak gave Seattle a 1-0 lead with a two-out home run in the first inning before Victor Martinez put the Tigers on top by one with a two-run shot in the fourth.

Penny scattered eight hits over seven innings for Detroit, which had won nine of its previous 11 games. Seattle starter Erik Bedard gave up two runs on three hits over five innings, striking out six and walking three.
