Jhonny Peralta hit a bases-loaded triple and Max Scherzer pitched six solid innings as the Detroit Tigers rolled to an 8-3 victory over the host Seattle Mariners on Monday.
Peralta’s hit capped a six-run seventh inning and Scherzer (3-0) struck out seven as Detroit (8-9) snapped a two-game losing streak.
The Tigers also received a run-scoring single from Miguel Cabrera and scored twice on wild pitches in the decisive seventh inning while handing Seattle (5-12) its 12th loss in 15 games.
Scherzer gave up two runs and six hits before handing it over to the bullpen after Detroit took an 8-2 lead.
Brandon Inge scored the tiebreaking run on a wild pitch by Josh Lueke (1-1) that short-hopped Seattle catcher Miguel Olivo. Cabrera singled home Ryan Raburn, and Ramon Santiago scored on a wild pitch by Chris Ray prior to Peralta’s bases-clearing triple over the head of center fielder Ryan Langerhans.
Seattle led 2-1 after Milton Bradley’s second homer of the season, a two-run shot to center in the third.
The Tigers tied the score in the sixth when Cabrera walked, moved to third on Brennan Boesch’s double down the left-field line and scored when Bradley committed an error while trying to field the ball in the corner.
Justin Smoak homered in the eighth for Seattle.
Mariners starter Jason Vargas gave up two runs and six hits in six innings.
