It was an equal opportunity offense for Kansas City on Sunday, as seven different Royals drove in runs in a 9-5 win over Detroit at Comerica Park.
The 12-hit attack was paced by third baseman Wilson Betemit, who was 4-for-4 with one RBI. Chris Getz drove in a pair, while Alex Gordon, Kila Ka’aihue, Jeff Francoeur, Matt Treanor and Alcides Escobar each had one RBI.
The offense supported a solid effort from Luke Hochevar (1-1), who struck out six and allowed four runs in seven innings. Hochevar’s only trouble was keeping the ball in the park; Jhonny Peralta (his first), Alex Aliva (his third) and Miguel Cabrera (his fourth) all homered for the Tigers.
Robinson Tejeda pitched a scoreless eighth for the Royals, but Kanekoa Texeira couldn’t get through the ninth. He gave up three hits and a run and forced Kansas City manager Ned Yost to bring in closer Joakim Soria with one out. Soria retired the next two batters on ground balls to earn his third save.
Detroit's Rick Porcello (0-2) was the losing pitcher. He gave up nine hits, three walks and five runs in five innings.
