Madison Bumgarner rebounded from a horrific outing to strike out a career-best 11 hitters as the San Francisco Giants posted a 3-1 victory over the visiting Cleveland Indians on Sunday night to complete a three-game sweep.

Bumgarner (4-9) gave up one run and six hits in seven innings as San Francisco won its fifth straight game. The left-hander lasted just one-third of an inning in his previous outing when he gave up eight runs and nine hits against Minnesota.

Jeremy Affeldt struck out five in two perfect innings for his second save.

Chris Stewart hit a two-run double in the second and Aubrey Huff has a run-scoring single in the third for San Francisco, which moved 1 1/2 games ahead of second-place Arizona in the National League West.

Cleveland’s lone run scored on Asdrubal Cabrera’s infield out in the sixth.

Fausto Carmona (4-10) gave up three runs and seven hits in six innings and became the first big-leaguer to reach 10 losses.

Home-plate umpire Hunter Wendelstedt left in the middle of the second inning after being hit in the mask with a foul tip in the top of the inning. Second-base umpire Jerry Layne moved behind the plate.
