Pinch-hitter Shelley Duncan's tie-breaking double highlighted a four-run 10th inning to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 7-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night.
The Indians (12-4) lead the Royals (10-6) by two games in the American League Central. Cleveland has won four straight.
Tim Collins (1-1) walked Carlos Santana to start the 10th. Duncan, batting for Travis Buck, lined a 1-1 pitch into the left field corner to score Santana. A throwing error by shortstop Alcides Escobar scored pinch-runner Adam Everett before Jack Hannahan's RBI double and Grady Sizemore's RBI single finished the scoring.
Joe Smith (1-0) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings and worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth.
Santana's RBI double in the first put the Indians ahead. Wilson Betemit's sacrifice fly tied the game in the second. The Indians went ahead again in the third on Shin-Soo Choo's sacrifice fly.
Kansas City took the lead in the sixth. After Melky Cabrera's double tied the game, Alex Gordon extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a line single to center that put the Royals ahead.
Matt LaPorta's RBI single in the seventh tied the game 3-3.
Royals starter Kyle Davies allowed two runs in six innings, while the Indians' Carlos Carrasco gave up three runs in 6 1/3 innings.
