Maicer Izturis singled in Peter Bourjos with two outs in the bottom of the 14th inning to give the Los Angeles Angels a 6-5 victory over the visiting Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.
Izturis singled off Jon Rauch (0-1) and Bourjos narrowly beat right fielder Jose Bautista’s throw to the plate with the winning run.
Bourjos doubled with two outs over the head of Toronto left fielder Travis Snider, who misplayed the ball. Dan Haren (2-0) got the victory by pitching the 14th in his first relief outing since 2004.
Toronto appeared to take the lead in the top of the 13th when Edwin Encarnacion beat third baseman Alberto Callaspo’s throw to first on an infield roller as Adam Lind scored. But third base umpire Bob Davidson called Yunel Escobar out for runner’s interference as he approached third base and made Callaspo hesitate before fielding the ball.
The Angels led 4-2 after a three-run third inning in which Itzuris doubled in one run and Abreu and Wells each delivered run-scoring singles.
The Blue Jays tied the game in the fourth on a two-run single by Rajai Davis and took a 5-4 lead on Aaron Hill’s run-scoring single.
The Angels knotted the score in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Bourjos.
Howie Kendrick hit his fourth homer of the season in the first for the Angels.
