Doug Davis won for the first time in more than a year to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 3-1 victory over the visiting New York Yankees on Friday afternoon in the opener of a three-game series.

Davis (1-5) allowed one run on three hits in 7 1/3 innings to record his first win since May 5, 2010.

Carlos Marmol got the final four outs for his 14th save as the Cubs halted New York's three-game winning streak.

Aramis Ramirez had two hits and two RBIs and Starlin Castro added two hits and a run-scoring double for Chicago.

Yankees starter Freddy Garcia (5-6) gave up all three runs on six hits in seven innings to lose for the first time in seven career starts vs. the Cubs.

Davis, who lost his first five starts of the year, carried a shutout into the eighth. He was pulled after yielding a one-out double to Nick Swisher.

Mark Teixeira plated Swisher with a single off reliever Sean Marshall. It was the Yankees’ second visit to Wrigley Field since the 1938 World Series.
