Carlos Guillen singled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning as the Detroit Tigers ran their winning streak to 12 games with a 6-5 triumph over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday afternoon.

Alex Avila hit the game-tying two-run homer in the ninth while Guillen added a solo homer and Ryan Raburn also went deep for Detroit, which has swept four straight series, including two against the White Sox.

Detroit cut its magic number to win the American League Central to two following Cleveland's 9-1 loss at Texas on Wednesday.

After Raburn’s pinch-hit solo blast off Chris Sale in the top of the ninth cut it to 5-3, Chicago elected to bring in closer Sergio Santos to face Avila with a runner on first. Avila wasted no time, jumping on a 1-0 fastball and belting it out to deep center to tie the game.

The White Sox failed to score a runner from third against Phil Coke (3-9) in the bottom of the ninth, leaving the door open for the Tigers.

Victor Martinez doubled off Santos (4-5) with one out. Guillen followed and took a 2-0 pitch right back up to the middle, scoring pinch runner Will Rhymes.

Jose Valverde picked up his 44th save in as many opportunities with a perfect 10th.
