Wade Davis handcuffed a struggling Chicago lineup, tossing seven strong innings to lead host Tampa Bay to a 4-1 victory on Wednesday evening. The defeat was the seventh in a row for the White Sox.
The Rays (9-9) grabbed the upper hand on John Jaso's two-run homer in the second inning against Philip Humber (1-2), and stretched the lead to 4-0 with RBI doubles by Casey Kotchman in the fourth and Matt Joyce in the fifth. All of Tampa Bay's runs came with two outs.
Davis (2-2) saw his shutout bid broken up by Carlos Quentin's solo home run in the sixth inning, but that would be the only offense Chicago could muster. Davis scattered six hits, walking two and striking out two.
Humber gave up six hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings for the White Sox (7-11). The clubs wrap up their four-game series on Thursday evening.
