Dustin Pedroia hit one of six Boston home runs and the Red Sox routed the Baltimore Orioles 10-4 at Fenway Park on Thursday night to take over first place in the American League East Division.
Pedroia blasted a three-run homer in the third inning, his ninth of the season, over the Green Monster in left field as Boston came back from a 2-0 deficit to win its third straight game.
Adrian Gonzalez hit his 17th homer in the fifth inning and Jacoby Ellsbury cracked his 11th in the sixth inning. Then, in the seventh inning, Boston’s David Ortiz (18), Josh Reddick (2) and Jarrod Saltalamacchia (6) hit consecutive homers.
Andrew Miller (3-0) overcame a shaky start to notch the win. He went five innings, allowing thee runs on six hits and four walks. He didn’t strike out a batter.
Jake Arrieta (9-6) took the loss for Baltimore, which has lost four straight. Arrieta was tagged for five runs, four earned, on six hits in 4 1/3 innings.
Adam Jones, J.J Hardy and Derrek Lee had RBIs for Baltimore.
With New York’s loss to Tampa Bay on Thursday, Boston took over the AL East lead by a half-game.
