Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis combined for seven hits and seven RBIs to lead the Boston Red Sox over the Chicago Cubs 15-5 in an interleague game Friday night.
Boston stretched its season-high winning streak to seven games in the first meeting between the clubs at Fenway Park since the 1918 World Series.
Jon Lester (6-1) got the win for Boston despite allowing 12 hits and five runs in six innings. Scott Atchison pitched three perfect innings of relief for the save.
Doug Davis took the loss surrendering seven runs on eight innings in 3 1/3 innings.
The teams were tied 2-2 in the third inning before Boston scored six unanswered runs. They also added five more runs in the eighth inning.
Youkilis and Jarrod Saltalamacchia homered for Boston. The Red Sox pounded out 19 hits in the game. Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and three other players had two apiece.
Jeff Baker had four hits and Aramis Ramirez had three for the Cubs.
