Clayton Richard pitched seven solid innings and David Eckstein scored twice as the San Diego Padres continued their 2010 mastery of the San Francisco Giants with a 3-1 win on Monday.
San Diego has won all seven meetings with the Giants this season and has held San Francisco to just nine runs in the process.
Richard (3-2) allowed one run and three hits while beating the Giants for the second time in less than a week. He struck out five and walked three.
Heath Bell pitched the ninth for his 11th save.
Eckstein went 2-for-4 with a walk. He singled in the fifth and scored on Chase Headley’s single. In the seventh, Eckstein walked and scored when Kyle Blanks was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Adrian Gonzalez homered in the first for the Padres’ other run.
San Francisco’s lone run scored in the fourth when Juan Uribe singled in Pablo Sandoval.
Matt Cain (2-3) gave up two runs and six hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked five.
