Ryan Doumit homered and drove in four and Andrew McCutchen had four hits for the Pittsburgh Pirates en route to a 6-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.
Neil Walker continued his strong rookie campaign with two hits and two runs scored for the Pirates, who pounded out 13 hits.
Doumit got Pittsburgh on the board with a sacrifice fly in the first before the club really started getting to Giants starter Todd Wellemeyer in the third. McCutchen led off with a double and scored on Walker’s triple before Doumit’s blast made it 4-0.
McCutchen led off the next frame with a solo shot and Walker drew a walk before Wellemeyer (3-5) was lifted. Doumit greeted Denny Bautista with a ground-rule double to make it 6-0.
San Francisco managed to push two across in the sixth but could not do anything else against left-hander Paul Maholm, who moved to 4-4 with 6 1/3 strong innings.
Two relievers bridged the gap to closer Octavio Dotel, who made things interesting by loading the bases and allowing a run in the ninth but got Freddy Sanchez to fly out to end the game.
