Juan Uribe and Aubrey Huff each hit two-run homers in a four-run sixth inning to lift the San Francisco Giants to a 6-4 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday.
Eli Whiteside added a solo homer and Freddy Sanchez chipped in three hits for the Giants in a game that was delayed nearly three hours at the start due to thunderstorms in the Pittsburgh area.
With more storms expected for Saturday, the clubs elected to wait out the rain - a decision that looked good for the Pirates after a four-run second inning gave them an early lead.
But after allowing three hits and no runs through the first four innings, Pittsburgh left-hander Zach Duke (3-6) began to get knocked around in the fifth.
Buster Posey led off the frame with a double and Huff followed with a single before Aaron Rowand’s double-play groundout put San Francisco on the board. Whiteside added his solo shot next to cut the lead to 4-2.
Uribe’s two-out blast tied it in the next inning and, after Posey singled, Huff snapped the draw with his seventh homer of the season.
Jonathan Sanchez (4-4) allowed four unearned runs on five hits with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. Brian Wilson picked up his 14th save by striking out a pair in the ninth.
