Placido Polanco belted a home run to lead off the 11th inning and Jayson Werth added an RBI double as the Philadelphia Phillies salvaged the final contest of a four-game series with a 2-0 triumph over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.
Cole Hamels allowed just one hit in eight scoreless innings and All-Star Ryan Howard and Polanco had three hits apiece for Philadelphia, which snapped a four-game losing streak with a collective one-hit gem.
Hamels struck out seven - including the first five batters he faced - en route to a no-decision. The 26-year-old left-hander has recorded at least seven innings in eight of his last nine outings.
Four relievers, including Chad Durbin (2-1), combined for three hitless frames to secure the victory.
Durbin picked up the win after striking out one in two-thirds of an inning. Brad Lidge retired the side in the 11th to notch his eighth save of the season.
Matt Holliday had his team's lone hit and All-Star Adam Wainwright extended his scoreless streak to 25 innings for NL Central-leading St. Louis, which saw its eight-game winning streak come to an end.
Kyle McClellan (1-3) permitted Polanco's blast to suffer the loss.
