Carlos Beltran hit two home runs and the New York Mets found a way to cool off Cole Hamels with a 7-3 victory on Sunday.
David Wright hit his 26th home run of the year to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead.
New York added to its score with a three-run fourth, highlighted by an RBI single by Jose Reyes and a two-run double by Nick Evans, all off Hamels. Beltran made it 5-0 with a solo shot in the fifth and gave the Mets some more breathing room with a two-run shot to left off reliever Ryan Madson in the ninth.
Beltran’s long balls were his sixth and seventh of the year for the Mets, who are wrapping up a disappointing 2010 campaign.
Beltran ended Hamels' day when he led off the fifth with his homer to left-center field. Hamels had been on fire recently, allowing just two runs while winning his last five starts but he came back down to earth on Sunday. Hamels (12-11) allowed five runs and nine hits in four innings.
Manny Acosta (3-1) picked up the win, allowing one hit and one walk in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
